About Be Number 1
Be Number 1 is an education initiative that brings local world-class athletes into local schools to encourage children to embrace their emotional wellbeing and achieve their own personal goals.

It offers the schools and the athletes a chance of forming a long-term relationship that will benefit the school, the athlete, the local community and supporters.

It uses the athlete’s journey to success, their many challenges and experiences, to help students understand their own choices, decisions and values.

We help and guide our athlete’s visits to schools through a series of lesson ideas that can be used to encourage young people to create a positive vision for their choices on health, fitness and their future aspirations and to encourage better attainment, health, citizenship, community cohesion and more sustainable lifestyle choices.

It focuses on

• Goal setting - creating appropriate, positive goals and/or a vision for their future success - whatever that might be
• Emotional resilience - learning how to recover when the chips are down, what is courage, self belief, self respect
• Positive decision-making and understanding consequences for poor decisions.
• Managing expectations - ‘it’s not failure, it’s feedback’

Be Number 1 is an education initiative that aims is to improve the life chances of every single child who engages in the free-to-schools programme.It enables schools to meet the Government’s Every Child Matters agenda of being healthy, safe, enjoying and achieving so young people can achieve economic wellbeing and deal with their own successes and failures.

It gives aspiring world-class athletes moral and financial support.

And it gives communities a sense of wellbeing, co-operation and unity.
